TALX provided software to run interactive voice-response systems for its clients. The software allowed employees to enroll for benefits or make changes to their benefit options such as their 401k.
TALX began to provide custom-built employee self-service software solutions. These software tools allowed clients to offer employee self-service tools for Web and IVR access. The TALX name was born in 1990.
TALX evolves from installed software products to outsourced services. The Work Number, now America’s leading employment and income verification service, is launched in 1995. Instead of helping clients install software to automate HR functions such as verifications, TALX receives client’s payroll data and maintains the data in its own secure data center to provide the verification service. To fuel the expansion, TALX goes public and joins NASDAQ in 1996.
Harnessing the power of the Web, TALX began to provide more verifications via the Web directly to organizations such as mortgage banks and government social service agencies via secure log-in in order to provide faster verifications and improved employee service.

TALX entered the unemployment cost management business with two major acquisitions, bringing the unemployment cost control division of Gates McDonald and the former Frick Company under one brand and offering a comprehensive suite of employer tax services and unemployment claims management services. TALX is now the leader in outsourced unemployment claims handling and unemployment cost control.

TALX also expanded its suite of payroll-data centric services to paperless pay with the addition of two new services: W-2 management and paperless pay. Additionally, through an acquisition, TALX added electronic time capture to its automated payroll and HR service suite. TALX also expanded its employer tax services to include the processing of applications for hiring tax credits.

In 2004, TALX expanded with onboarding services and I-9 management which manages the compliance of I-9 forms to government standards.

Also, TALX expanded its tax credit and incentive services with the acquisition of three premier companies: Net Profit, Glick & Glick, and TBT. This expansion allows TALX to better serve the tax credit and incentives needs of its clients through best-in-class technology and legislative expertise.

TALX continues to pursue new services, based on client input, that will help clients develop paperless payroll and HR methods, improve efficiency, and remove costs.

Further solidifying its hiring solutions, TALX acquired Performance Assessment Networks offering clients the ability to test applicants and streamline the talent acquisition process online.

On May 15, 2007, TALX became a part of Equifax who has been providing value-added information solutions to businesses and consumers for over 100 years.
